Kelly Clarkson is doing what she does best: taking a great song and making it her own. On a new episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer delivered a standout Kellyoke performance of “What It Sounds Like,” a fan-favorite track from Netflix’s animated hit KPop Demon Hunters.

Instead of covering the soundtrack’s massive single “Golden,” Clarkson went with the emotional deep cut, originally performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI. Backed by her band, she leaned into the song’s message of resilience and self-discovery, bringing extra power and heart to lyrics about finding strength through broken moments. It was the kind of performance that feels both effortless and intentional, classic Kelly.

“What It Sounds Like” has been a standout from the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, which became a chart success following the film’s release. The song peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the full soundtrack debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The project’s biggest hit, “Golden,” dominated the charts throughout 2025 and recently picked up a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

The performance arrives as The Kelly Clarkson Show continues its seventh season, blending music moments with candid conversations. The show recently welcomed Arden Cho, who voices Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters, adding another full-circle moment for fans of the film.

While Clarkson hasn’t released a new album since Chemistry in 2023, which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, moments like this prove she doesn’t need new material to make noise. Her ability to move effortlessly across genres and connect emotionally with a song remains unmatched.

Whether it’s pop, rock, or a K-pop-inspired animated soundtrack, Clarkson once again shows why Kellyoke remains must-watch TV, and why her voice continues to be one of the most reliable in music.
