Indie-pop singer-songwriter, Marilyn Hucek, is making her mark on the music world with her coming-of-age story of womanhood in her self-titled debut album. Released on October 24, she described the 8-song collection as “a ‘me’ project. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s vulnerable". Written between Nashville and Los Angeles, the record invites listeners into an unfiltered portrait of her life, touching on love, grief, societal pressures, and defining choices that shape a woman’s journey.
MARILYN opens with the road trip-inspired “I Made It”, where Hucek captures the optimism of forging your own path. That sense of freedom deepens into the vulnerability of “Naked”, a meditation on holding onto yourself in unfamiliar places and the ache of long-distance love.
In “Love to Hate You”, she exposes jealousy and obsession with startling honesty, before “Pressure Makes Diamonds” and “To Be or Not To Be” confront societal pressures around marriage and motherhood. A lighter turn comes with “Rebound” a playful yet self-aware look at rekindling an old flame, while “Me Salvaste el Alma” is a Spanish-language love song inspired by her Chilean roots and showcases her multicultural artistry. The album closes with “Neil Young,” its emotional centerpiece, written for Marilyn’s late father, who battled Alzheimer’s disease.
Hucek’s album blends organic instrumentation with modern pop sensibilities, capturing Hucek at her most authentic. She explained “I’ve never felt so honest in my songwriting. Music has never been so healing,” and “If my songs can help even on person heal, then I’ve done my job”. She celebrated the release with an official album listening party held at Licorice Pizza Records in Studio City CA.
Marilyn Hucek was born in Washington, DC, and is of American-Chilean descent. A recent graduate from LAAMP (Los Angeles Academy for Artists and Music Production), she has previously released two EPs and multiple singles, amassing over 4 million streams and a steadily growing monthly listener base of 10000+ on Spotify.
Hucek was deeply impacted by her father’s battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Through her music, she strives to educate, inspire, and support those affected by Alzheimer’s. As a proud advocate for Alzheimer’s awareness and sustainability, 5% of her single "Neil Young" streaming royalties will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
